Caption: Oriental plane tree (Platanus orientalis). Originating from the near East, the oriental plane has spread through Europe - mainly as an ornamental tree for parks and avenues. It is similar to the London plane, growing to between 15 and 40 metres, but its leaves have between 5 and 7 nodes, 2 more than the London plane. The bark and leaves have an astringent action and can be applied to burns.
