Mild illness with flu-like symptoms is known as West Nile fever, while more severe forms of the disease are called West Nile encephalitis or West Nile meningitis. Symptoms range from fever, headache, back pain, muscle aches, loss of appetite, sore throat, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea to muscle weakness, stiff neck, confusion, and loss of consciousness.
