False-colour transmission electron micrograph of a coronavirus inclusion body, lying within the cytoplasm of an unidentified cell. The inclusion body (pinkish-brown, centre) is an intracellular 'colony' of coronavirus particles (virions), each one a small sphere, 80-120 nanometres in diameter. Part of the cell nucleus is visible at the bottom of the image. Coronaviruses cause colds & gastroenteritis in humans and similar disease patterns occur in other animals. Magnification: x6,500 at 6x7cm, x3,250 at 35mm size.
