Caption: False colour transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of virions of the Hepatitis A virus. Hepatitis A is a small (25-28 nanometres diameter) RNA-containing virus with similar structural features to the Picornavirus group of small RNA viruses (which includes the enterovirus & rhinovirus). Hepatitis A is the causative agent of what was formerly known as infective hepatitis. Transmission occurs through the faecal-oral route; flies, food amp;& drinking water being the vectors. The disease is more prevalent in warm countries with poor standards of hygiene. Magnification: x 70,000 at 35mm size.
