Caption: False-colour transmission electron micrograph of Hepatitis B virus particles - the small orange spheres & tubules. The virus causes serum hepatitis, an acute inflammation of the liver. The virus appears in three structural forms: spheres 20 nanometres (nm) in diameter, tubules of similar diameter but variable length, & Dane particle spheres 40nm in diameter. Serum hepatitis is transmitted through infected blood with symptoms of headaches, fever and jaundice developing after an incubation period of 1-6 months. Infection with hepatitis-B has been implicated in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma, a primary cancer of liver. Mag: x42,000 at 35mm, x95000 at 6x7cm size.
