Caption: Baobab tree (Adansonia grandidieri). This baobab tree is growing alongside a sandy track in the Tsimanampetsotsa national reserve in Madagascar. The Baobab tree is endemic to western Madagascar and thrives in arid conditions due to its large swollen trunk that stores water. The fibrous bark of the tree can be up to fifteen centimetres thick and is used to make rope.
