Caption: Alzheimer's patient. An elderly woman suffering from Alzheimer's disease, improves her hand coordination with food making activities. A healthcare worker gives her encouragement. Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of senile dementia in old age, rare before the age of 60. This progressive form of dementia produces a change in personality over time, including memory disorders, confusion and disorientation. Loss of sensory and motor functions tend to be spared until the late stages, when the patient may require full-time attention. The disease produces a degeneration of brain tissue. There is yet no known cure.
