Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Albino and black woman. A black woman standing next to an albino woman. This shows the contrast in skin, hair and eye colour. The albino woman has a genetic disorder which stops her body producing the pigment melanin. The black woman has a very high concentration of melanin in her body, making her skin and eyes dark brown, and her hair black. Melanin protects the skin and eyes against damage from strong sunlight. Albinos do not tan, and often suffer from photophobia, an aversion to bright lights. They also have a much greater risk of developing skin cancer. The condition is congenital, and cannot be treated.
