Caption: This axial (cross sectional) CT image of the brain in an infant who suffered severe lack of oxygen shows extensive infarction of both cerebral hemispheres. The infarcted (damaged) cerebral hemispheres look diffusely darker than normal. A small amount of hyperdense (recent) hemorrhage (bleeding) is the small region of white density on your right. The brainstem and cerebellum appear uninvolved by the extensive brain damage.
