Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Asthma relief. Young boy breathes into the face-mask of a nebulizer, in order to inhale an asthmatic drug. The nebulizer pump machine is at lower right. A nebulizer delivers the drug as a fine mist that can be breathed in. A stream of air from the pump passes through the handheld chamber containing the liquid drug, dispersing it into the face-mask. Nebulizers are most often used to treat asthma attacks. A bronchodilator drug is given to relieve the constriction of airways in the lungs that occurs during an attack. Most patients find nebulizers easier to use than conventional inhalers.
