Caption: Asthma inhaler. Disposable asthma inhaler known as an accuhaler. This device contains a blister pack of 60 individual drug doses. The user uses the thumbgrip (lower right) to open the inhaler and inhale one drug dose. The doses contain the active ingredient salmeterol xinafoate, a bronchodilator drug that widens the airways of the lungs. Asthma is a condition which causes narrowing of tiny airways in the lungs, which become inflamed and lead to attacks of wheezing and breathlessness. The accuhaler has a small counter (to the left of the thumbgrip) to inform the user how many doses are left. This device is made by the Glaxo Wellcome company.
