Rheumatoid arthritis is a type of arthritis where the joints of the fingers, wrists, toes or other joints in the body become swollen, stiff and painful, and in severe cases deformed. It is an autoimmune disorder (where the body's immune system attacks tissues). The onset of the disease is marked by fever and generalised aches and pains preceding joint symptoms. Treatment includes anti- inflammatory drugs and physiotherapy.
