Caption: AIDS and pneumonia. Baby fitted with a breathing aid due to combined pneumonia and AIDS infections. Pneumonia is a bacterial infection of the lungs, and can cause severe breathing difficulties. AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) is a disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It weakens the immune system, making the patient susceptible to opportunistic infections and making normally harmless infections life threatening. Photographed in Thailand.
