Caption: Boil in the skin of a person's wrist. Boils are tender inflamed areas of skin containing pus. Infection is usually caused by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus entering through a hair follicle or a small wound. Boils may be more likely to form when a person's resistance is low. They are treated by lancing to release pus & by using antibiotics. Occasionally, they may cause a more widespread infection.
