Caption: Teenage boy suffering from Bell's palsy, photographed during an involuntary tic (a nervous reaction) that affects the right side of his face, causing his right eye to close tightly. Bell's palsy is a paralysis of the facial nerve that causes a muscular weakness over one side of the face. In some cases a person's hearing may be affected, with sounds seeming abnormally loud: a loss of taste sensation may also occur. Cause is unknown and recovery usually occurs spontaneously.
