Caption: This axial (cross sectional) contrast enhanced MRI of the brain through the internal auditory canals shows pathologic enhancement of the distal intracanalicular (red arrow) and tympanic segment (yellow arrow) of the right (on your left) facial nerve. This person had right facial paralysis. Bells palsy is thought to be a viral infection involving the facial nerve and in most cases resolves itself.
