Caption: This contrast enhanced axial (cross sectional) MRI image through the level of the internal auditory canals shows the typical appearance of Bell's Palsy. There is abnormal, confluent enhancement of the left (on your right) facial nerve which involves the labyrinthine and tympanic segments. Patient's usually have an acute onset of a peripheral facial nerve paralysis. This is thought to be a condition that is viral in origin that usually resolves.
