Caption: Breast cancer. Coloured scanning electron micrograph of cancerous breast tissue surrounding two red blood cells. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women, affecting approximately 1 in 20 of the female population at some point in their lives. The majority of breast cancers originate in the mammary ducts, with some in the breast lobular glands. Early detection is important for treatment and hence regular mammograms and self examinations are encouraged. Magnification: x3000 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
