Caption: Breast cancer surgery. Image 7 of 20. Surgeon using a navigator gamma guidance system (upper right) on a woman's breast. This is a type of radiation detector used to isolate radioactively labelled cancer cells. During this surgery, malignant (cancerous) tumours are being removed from the breast and axillary (underarm) lymph nodes as part of a wide local excision (WLE) operation. For a series showing this procedure, see images M122/468 - M122/487.
