Caption: Corns on the tops of the middle three toes of the foot. A corn or clavus is an area of hard skin that forms on or between the toes due to pressure, often from ill-fitting shoes. They may be associated with deformities of the toes that cause the bones to contact the shoes. Treatment for corns is by shaving off the excess dead skin and treating any underlying deformity, if present. Corn pads can relieve pressure around the corns. To prevent occurrence or recurrence of corns, properly fitting shoes with a roomy toe area should be worn.
