Caption: Chancroid on a 27-year-old man's penis. Chancroid is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) which manifests itself in the form of painful ulcers. It is caused by the bacteria Hemophilus ducreii and can be easily treated within a few days. It initially appears as a tender bump, emerging 3 to 10 days after sexual exposure. This then erupts into the ulcer seen here.
