Caption: This cross sectional scan through the middle of the brain shows a bright, round area in the center of the image. This area represents an abnormality called a colloid cyst. Colloid cysts are always located in the upper (superior) and front (anterior) part of the third ventricle. The ventricles are the normal fluid filled cavities in the brain which contain cerebral spinal fluid (CSF). Colloid cysts are benign brain lesions but because of their location they can block the flow of CSF which can lead to headaches and even sudden death.
