Caption: Bone growth disorder. Coloured X-ray of the left hand of a 6-year-old girl with Schmid metaphyseal dysostosis (also called Schmid-type metaphyseal chondrodysplasia). This is a very rare inherited disorder where cartilage abnormalities disrupt the bone growth. It is characterized by short stature with abnormally short arms and legs and bowed legs. Here, the wrist bones have not developed normally, and there are also abnormalities of the knuckle joints of the fingers.
