Caption: This coronal (frontal) MRI image of the brain shows prominent encystment of the septum pellucidum . This is normally present at birth but in more than 80% it is obliterated by the age of 3 to 6 months. Some feel that it may be associated with abnormalities of the limbic system. Some have shown an increased prevalence of a cavum septum pellucidum in schizophrenia.
