Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Leukaemia patient enclosed in a protective plastic-tent in hospital, is embraced by his daughter as he awaits a bone-marrow trans- plant. Using DNA (genetic) fingerprinting, a matching bone-marrow donor was at last found for Jirka Rydl after a search through 40,000 donors. His blood was found incompatible with that of his family. After genetically classifying his blood DNA, this "fingerprint" was entered into a computerized international registry of bone-marrow donors. Two donors were located. Now, Rydl, his immune system purposely destroyed for the trans- plantation ahead, awaits the operation that may save him from this blood cancer.
