Caption: Chernobyl cancer patient. Male patient (aged 27) receives a glass of water from a nurse, while he rests isolated in a plastic sterile room. He is an accident victim of the Chernobyl nuclear power station disaster which occurred near Kiev on 25th April 1986. He is receiving a course of chemo- therapy for cancer caused by nuclear radiation, and has lost his hair. During chemotherapy the immune system is weakened and a sterile room such as this protects him from infections. A dressing on his shoulder is the site through which a catheter will administer anticancer drugs into his blood. Photographed at a hospital in Moscow, Russia.
