Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Bowel cancer causing urinary retention and a swollen bladder in a 72 year old man. The growth of the cancer has led to his bladder not being able to expel urine, causing it to enlarge, leading to his swollen abdomen. A catheter inserted into the bladder through the urethra may drain the urine. The cancer can then be treated by chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery or a combination of the three.
