Caption: Kidney cancer. Gross clinical specimen of a kidney affected by adenocarcinoma, a form of cancer arising from cells in the lining of the walls of an organ. Kidney cancer is not common. It is found more often in men than in women. The chance of a cure varies depending on how early the cancer is diagnosed. There is a risk that it will spread via the blood vessels and lymph nodes around the kidney and affect other organs such as the pancreas, bowel or lungs. A common treatment is surgical removal of the affected kidney. Drugs, radiation, hormonal treatments and immunotherapy are also used.
