Caption: Bone cancer. Sectioned gross clinical specimen of a femur (thigh bone) affected by chondrosarcoma, a cancerous bone tumour. Chondrosarcoma can occur spontaneously in children, although this is rare. It also occurs as a development of existing benign growths in later life. It usually causes pain and swelling. It is treated by surgical removal of the tumour, with a limited role for radiation or drug therapy.
