Caption: Bone cancer. Sectioned gross clinical specimen of a femur affected by fibrosarcoma, a cancerous tumour. The tumour (right) has produced rubbery grey tissue and caused cavities to form due to cell death. Fibrosarcoma is caused by uncontrolled growth of cells that make up connective tissue. It usually develops in tissues around limb muscles, although bone or the tissue around nerves can also be affected. It is usually found in adults aged from 30-60. The symptoms are pain and swelling. It is treated by surgical removal and radiotherapy. Magnification unknown.
