Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Skin cancer. Basal cell carcinoma on the lower eyelid. Basal cell carcinomas, also called rodent ulcers, are a form of skin cancer caused by uncontrolled and malignant proliferation of basal cells found at the base of the skin. They usually appear on the face and are thought to be caused by the ultraviolet radiation in sunlight. Although they slowly destroy surrounding tissues, they seldom spread to other parts of the body. Treatments include surgery, cryosurgery and radiotherapy.
