Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Skin cancer. Face of a patient before surgical removal of a skin cancer from his nose. The most common form of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma, usually appears on the face and is thought to be caused by the ultraviolet radiation in sunlight. It slowly destroys surrounding tissues, but seldom spreads to other parts of the body. Other treatments for skin cancer include cauterization, cryotherapy or radiotherapy. For the patient after surgery, see M131/547.
