Caption: Leukaemia cells. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of cancer cells (blue with black/white nuclei) in a section through a lymph node from a leukaemia patient. The enlarged, irregular nuclei are typical of cancer cells. Leukaemia is caused by uncontrolled proliferation of leucocytes (white blood cells), which normally form part of the immune system. Symptoms of leukaemia include anaemia, poor blood clotting and a weakened immune system. Treatment includes anti-cancer drugs and bone marrow transplants. Magnification: x1500 at 6x7cm size.
