Caption: Cancer research. Female researcher examining the genetic sequence of a sample of neuroblastoma cancer DNA. It is represented by pink bands glowing on an ultraviolet lightbox. The DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) samples were placed into electrophoresis gel containing DNA- binding fluorescent dye. The fragmented DNA was separated into bands by applying an electric field. Here the part of chromosome 2 containing the MYCN gene is being sequenced. Multiple copies of this gene are often found in neuroblastomas, and usually also indicate a highly malignant cancer. Photographed in the Cancer Research Unit at Newcastle University, England.
