Caption: Cancer research. Female researcher using a pipette as she works with cultured human colon cancer cells in a class II biological safety cabinet. The cells are being grown to see how they are affected by new anticancer (chemotherapy) drugs. Here, the researcher is harvesting cells and reseeding them, placing them onto new flasks or dishes, for testing. Cultured cancer cells grow rapidly, and require regular reseeding and frequent replacement of their culture media to keep them healthy. The cabinet keeps the cells in a completely sterile environment, as well as protecting the researcher from exposure to them or any hazardous chemicals.
