Caption: Gamma camera scans of the skull & spine of a person suffering from multiple metastastic (secondary) bone cancer. The skull is shown in anterior (bottom left), posterior (top right) and lateral aspects. The gamma camera is a diagnostic device used widely in the detection & management of cancer - often as a means of checking for secondary disease after a patient has received treatment for their primary cancer. This colour- coded image represents the position & intensity of radiation emitted from a short-lived radioactive tracer that concentrates in bone - more strongly so in cancerous bone (red areas).
