Caption: False-colour 3-D CT (computed tomography) brain scan revealing a meningioma (in blue), a large brain tumour. Meningiomas are tumours that arise from the arachnoid, the membrane covering the brain. They may grow to a large size (as here) and compress the brain but do not invade it & therefore are usually resectable (amenable to surgical removal). This enhanced CT scan might be used by a surgeon in planning any techniques required to remove such a tumour; for example, assessing the complications posed by a tumour's proximity to vital blood vessels. Here, the tumour occupies part of the lateral ventricle (coloured yellow).
