Caption: False-colour three-dimensional image based on computed tomography (CT) data showing the location of a cancerous tumour of the pancreas (green). Also featured are the ribs and spine (white), part of the aorta (red) and the vena cava (blue). Images of this type are useful in planning surgery, particularly if a tumour is inaccessible or is involved with vital organs or blood vessels. CT imagery is most useful in revealing very small pancreatic tumours & also the swelling of the gland that accompanies acute pancreatitis.
