Caption: Lung cancer. Coloured X-ray of tumours (blue spots) in the lungs of a female patient. The tumours are secondary cancers, and have spread to the lungs from a primary cancer in a breast. The spread of cancer from one site to another is known as metastasis. Once a cancer has spread throughout the body, treatment is very difficult. Radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery may be used to slow or stop its growth. If breast cancer is diagnosed before it has spread, the tumour can be removed surgically and there is a good chance of a cure.
