Caption: Secondary lung cancer. Coloured frontal chest X- ray of the lungs of a patient with cancer. Malignant (cancerous) tumours (white patches) are seen throughout the lungs. One tumour is growing at a hilum (centre right). A hilum is an area through which blood vessels, nerves and ducts access an organ. This is a secondary cancer, the tumours having spread (metastasised) from another site (primary cancer). Treatment depends on what the primary cancer is, but may involve a combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy to reduce and control the secondary tumours.
