Eczema is an inflammation of the skin, accompanied by itching, scaling or blisters. Usually the cause is unknown, but occasionally it is an allergic reaction. There are four main types of eczema. Atopic, this usually occurs in childhood. Nummular which normally occurs in adults. Stasis ezcema occuring in people with varicose veins, and hand eczema which is an allergic reaction, often to detergents. Eczema is treated with soothing ointments, corticosteroid & antihistamine drugs and antibiotics are used.
