Eczema in the ear canal. The skin is red with yellowy-white scaly patches. Eczema is an inflammation of the skin, accompanied by itching and scaling or blisters. Usually the cause is unknown, but occasionally it is an allergic reaction. There are 4 main types of eczema: atopic, which usually occurs in childhood; nummular, which normally occurs in adults; stasis eczema occurring in people with varicose veins, and hand eczema which is an allergic reaction. Eczema is treated with soothing ointments and corticosteriod drugs are used to reduce inflammation.
