Caption: Healing abrasion to the cornea of the eye, revealed under ultraviolet light using a fluorescein stain. The scratch in the cornea appears as the light green track over the pupil; it was probably caused by a foreign body. Fluorescein is a harmless dye used in ophthalmology to detect damage to the cornea (the transparent front part of the eyeball) or to the conjunctiva (the delicate mucous membrane covering the front of the eye).
