Caption: Benign naevus in iris. Close-up of the eye of a one year old boy showing a benign melanoma (or naevus) of the iris. The iris is a coloured muscular diaphragm that controls how much light enters the eye through its central aperture, the pupil. This iris is mostly blue/grey but contains a large patch of brown pigment at right. Also called a piebald iris, this condition is harmless.
