Caption: Bleeding eye. Post-operative view after a pterygium was excised from a 56-year-old man's eye. This is 5 days after the operation. A pterygium is a benign growth of the conjunctiva, the membrane covering the front of the eye. Here it had grown inwards from the nasal side of the nose and reached the cornea at the centre of the eye. For the growth before surgery, see M155/552.
