Caption: Peaked pupil. The pupil (black) is the opening of the eye, through which light passes onto the retina (that light-sensitive membrane at the back of the eye). The iris (blue and yellow) is a muscle that widens and narrows the pupil to regulate the amount of light allowed in the eye. The peak, seen at the bottom of the pupil, could be due to a congenital (birth) defect, injury, or a condition such as glaucoma.
