Caption: Light micrograph of a section of human lung affected by haemosiderosis, a condition characterized by the excessive deposition of iron, usually due to excessive intake in blood transfusions. Here, deposits of iron appear in blue/black stained clumps. The heart & liver are also affected. A comparable condition, haemochromatosis, results from an inherited defect in iron metabolism and affects many organs, including the liver, pancreas & endocrine glands.
