Caption: This axial cross sectional MRI image of the brain of an elderly person shows enlarged lateral ventricles (the large black strucutres). This is a form a hydrocephalus that can sometimes be treated successfully with ventricular shunting (diversion of fluid from the ventricles out of the head). Patients with this condition called NPH can present with dementia, difficulty initiating walking and urinary incontinence.
