Caption: Heart bypass grafts. Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) scan of a heart (orange, mostly at lower left) that has had a blockage of its coronary arteries treated by coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. The grafts are the thin tubes running from the main artery (aorta) back across the surface of the heart. The blobs are the sutures used to attach the grafts to the heart. The grafts bypass blockages in the coronary arteries and supply oxygenated blood to keep the heart muscle pumping. A blockage can cause a fatal heart attack. CT scanning uses X-ray beams to scan the body. Computers are then used to create a 3D image of the area scanned.
