Caption: False-colour angiogram showing occlusion of the left carotid artery. The blue area at bottom is the aortic arch, which curves over the top of the heart. Two arteries (blue) are seen arising from it, the innominate artery (left) and the left subclavian artery (right). Between these is a small blue stub, all that remains of the left common carotid artery, which supplies blood to the left side of the head. The carotid has been completely blocked, causing a massive stroke. The internal left carotid artery can still be seen as a thin green ribbon, indicating delayed vascularisation from derived circulation. The left subclavian artery (right) also shows stenosis.
